History
Geostock was founded in 1965 by the major refiners operating in France at the time, to look into the possibility of developing strategic underground storage for hydrocarbons.
23 September 1965 : Creation of Geostock s.a.r.l., “Société Française de Stockage Géologique”. The original shareholders were BP France and Shell Française, who were later joined by Elf France and Total Raffinage et Distribution, each holding 25% of the capital.
- 1971-1975 : Launch of activities outside France
- 1987 : Creation of Geostock US Inc.
- 1989 : Creation of Géométhane (an economic interest group, owned 50/50 by Geostock and Gaz de France)
- 1996 : Shell sells its shares to Tractebel Engineering
- 1999 : Acquisition of a 60% stake in the German company UGS (Untergrundspeicher und Geotechnologie Systeme), which is now held by Geostock Holding
- 2000 : Reactivation of Geostock US Inc., which is relocated to Houston.
- 2001 : Creation of Geostock Holding
- 2005 : Tractebel Engineering sells its shares to Entrepose Contracting
- 2007 : Creation of Geogreen, 40% owned by Geostock and specializing in the underground storage of CO2.
- 2008 : Creation of Geostock Iberia, wholly owned by Geostock Holding.
- 2009 : Creation of Geosud, 30% owned by Geostock Holding and reorganisation of Géométhane.
- 2011 : Creation of Geostock Asia, wholly owned by Geostock Holding.
